First of all, palmistry, the formal name of palm reading, has been around since Aristotle's time. You always examine your dominant hand and a series of characteristics. The characteristics include shape of hand, hand lines, skin color, texture, flexibility of hand, etc. At that point in my research I kind of gave up trying to find a source that will teach me how to give myself an elaborate, efficient palm reading. Here we go!
It all starts with the understanding of the left and right hand. The right hand signifies the left side of your brain which controls your logic and mostly your outer being. Now, outer being sounds relative however it is defined by your interactions with other people and your experiences. The left hand signification the right side of your brain which controls your inner person, your spiritual being. I know, what does that even mean? Basically how you analyze your interactions with other people and how you develop who you are. For the best analysis, you would examine both hands but most palm readers only examine your dominant hand.
Hand shape is also very important. I wish I could make a little spreadsheet on blogger. Here is the description of all the hand shapes.
Earth hands are generally identified by broad, square palms and fingers, thick or coarse skin, and ruddy color. The length of the palm from wrist to the bottom of the fingers is usually equal to the length of the finger.
People with an earth hand have square palms with short fingers. There are usually few lines and often arches on the fingertips. People with this hand dont like change. They tend to be slow in nature and have a strong affinity to nature and the bush. They are emotionally stable and make the best workers. Interesting is the fact that you often find successful artists and photographers with earth hands. Most people with trade jobs such as a carpenter have earth hands.
Air hands exhibit square or rectangular palms with long fingers and sometimes protruding knuckles, low-set thumbs, and often dry skin. The length of the palm from wrist to the bottom of the fingers is usually equal to the length of the fingers. The air hand is gentle looking and belongs to those who can be very sensitive and idealistic. If the hand is well padded, they are in touch with the realities of life, and have strong, philosophic natures. But if the hand is thin measuring from the palm side to the back of the hand, they adapt dreamy natures, and have problems accomplishing much.
Water hands are seeable by the short, sometimes oval-shaped palm, with long, flexible, conical fingers. The length of the palm from wrist to the bottom of the fingers is usually less than the width across the widest part of the palm, and usually equal to the length of the fingers. Those with water (conic) type hands, which are tapering and well-padded, have artistic natures. They may not necessarily be endowed with artistic abilities themselves, although some are, but they are intuitive and appreciate the artistic side of life, whether they be carpenters or pilots. For people with this hand emotions are more important than reason. Actresses and models often have this hand.
Fire hands are characterized by a square or rectangular palm, flushed or pink skin, and shorter fingers. The length of the palm from wrist to the bottom of the fingers is usually greater than the length of the fingers.
The fire hand (spatula shaped) which is either narrower at the top of the hand near the finger, or the bottom near the wrist, and widens at the opposite portion, belongs to the inventive person. They are active, excitable and emotional. They like to be in charge and control other people. There is always a large number of strong lines on the hands and usually whorl fingerprints. Fire handed people tend to have a lot of injuries and accidents.

After this point, I realized my reading is like on point so I did more researching into the hand lines.
Then we get into the hand lines:
1: Life line - 2: Head line - 3: Heart line - 4: Girdle of Venus - 5: Sun line - 6: Mercury line - 7: Fate line
I am not going to get into any of the combinations because it would take up pages and pages. Honestly, I could write a thesis paper on all of this because it fascinates me. I am going to try to find a book which describes all of this in depth. Online sources are not always 100% reliable. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
