SHE'S GONNA BLOW TONIGHT!

Little Trisha Crawled Up

New York all the way up to Canada is supposed to be getting at least foot of snow tonight into the morning.  This means I will probably be snowed in for the next few days.  People who have not been snowed in before will probably be in this situation too.  What does one do when trapped at the house for days on end? Here are a few tips and suggestions for what to do (mind you, I have satellite internet and TV which will probably not be working due to the weakened signal caused by the snow as well as no generator):

  1. Get your rugged boots out and get ready to go outside to shovel -- no one wants to be literally snowed inside
  2. Invest in a quality shovel. Metal is the best for the potential ice.
  3. Make sure you save plenty of water in case of a power outage – the last thing you need is no water for days.
  4. Who cares if you are too old for playing in the snow? Go out and build a snow fort or snowman.
  5.  Make sure you stock up on food considering you never know when you will be able to make it to the grocery store again (for me, it is roughly a 15 minute drive).
  6. Get your flashlights out ahead of time in case there is a power outage during the night.
  7. Invest in a wood stove because they are reliable in any situation.
  8.  Bring out your board games.
  9. Make sure your windshield wipers are vertical so they are not at risk of getting damaged from freezing to the windshield.
  10. Take walks outside.  This is a great opportunity to get some exercise in.
  11. Make sure you stock up on salt and gravel to ensure your driveway is not slippery.
  12. GET SNOW TIRES, GET SNOW TIRES, GET SNOW TIRES!

I have been snowed in many times.  Sometimes we lose electricity or sometimes the roads are just too slippery to leave. Snow storms can be extremely dangerous and at times boring.  I hope someone can take my advice.  If you have any other suggestions, I am sure many people can find them useful and I would love to hear them.  Stay safe!
