With The Price Of Oil....

Yesterday morning (9:30AM) I was woken up by a tractor pulling apart cut down trees across the road.  I was extremely upset I have been trying to catch up on sleep since my final exams.  Then, I realized morning here starts at sunrise and I am not on the Maine schedule of sleep (nor will I ever be on that schedule).  I lessened my anger when I realized lumber is a great source of income for some people here; it can sell up to $250 a cord!

This whole incident reminded me that one of the few things I enjoy about the Maine winter and one of the things I take for granted -- my wood stove.  Wood heat is by far the best source of heat; I do not care what anyone says.  My family has a full building full of fire wood my dad has cut up and collected over the years.  We have two stoves, one in the kitchen and one in the living room.

The only downfall about wood stoves is the major fire risk.  I have had two chimney fires which have caused my mom to be paranoid about using it. When I am home from school, it is a necessity to have wood heat!  Even though I hate bringing wood into the house and I refuse to chop kilning, I enjoy sitting next to the stove enjoying hot cocoa made from the water heated by a kettle.  You really have not lived the Maine experience without wood heat.  It gives your face a glow which in turn makes you smile.  J
